The Affenpinscher is a small puppy, but it is full of energy and is very anxious. This is a very active animal that likes to bark, jump, spin, move; it’s like a small and devastating tornado. Also it is not the most obedient and submissive dog, which makes their training more difficult. So how should you educate an Affenpinscher?
Like many small dogs, also called “lap dogs” had a use as rodent hunters…but its wider use is another one: to be pampered, whimsical and adorable. With its small size and manner becomes a dog that everyone wants to pamper. But beware! There is no worse mistake to educate an Affenpinscher that to give it everything that it wants. It has to earn it…and being irresistible and adorable is not enough. Although it is difficult to say no to that face and those lovely jumps, think it’s for the best.
The Affenpinscher won’t consent you to hit it or yell at him, it will only accept a firm owner, very confident and that never gives in. If you decide that your dog won’t jump to the couch, never allow it. It will take advantage of any opportunity to become the leader of the house, and you have to remember that you are the boss. Otherwise your dog will be a disaster.
So, what should you do? Educating an Affenpinscher it’s not so different from training a Blue Heeler, a Belgian Shepherd, or a Bull Terrier. Just make sure that you are very firm, constant, and sure of yourself. Don’t let its adorable appearance make you say, “Well, just this time jumps to the couch”. Be affectionate, but not too much, and certainly not when it asks for it: only when he deserves it. That’s how an Affenpinscher is perfectly educated.
